Walking with Jesus, God’s Love in action
About the school
English Martyrs is a single-form-entry Catholic primary school and pre-school in Wakefield for children aged three to eleven. Ofsted judged the school Good in every area in December 2023, and in March 2025 the Catholic Schools Inspectorate found it Good overall with Outstanding Catholic Life and Mission. Pastoral care and wellbeing are central to school life, and every child is promised a rich set of experiences between Reception and Year 6, from music, sport and drama to residentials, retreats and growing and cooking produce. Breakfast and after-school clubs support working families. The school works in close partnership with St Joseph’s Catholic Primary, Castleford, and is a key feeder for St Thomas à Becket.
“Adults have positive relationships with pupils and care deeply about them. There is an air of friendliness and positivity across the school.”
