Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity Fun Run

Around 850 pupils joined forces at St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School this week in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, to kick off this year’s INEOS GO Run For Fun™ event.

Children from primary and secondary schools around Wakefield, all part of the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust, took part in the run at St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School on Wednesday 4th May with support from students and teachers at the high school and the GO Run For Fun mascot, Dart.

Inspiring young people to get moving is an important part of tackling childhood obesity, which is fast becoming one of the leading areas of public health concern in Scotland. Having encouraged more than 120,000 children to get running through over 200 events so far, the GO Run For Fun campaign is already the biggest children’s running initiative in the world. By the end of this year it aims to encourage many more kids to get off the couch, give the TV a rest and get active.

Damian Chubb, Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust Development and Standards Officer, said: “Healthy living is a life skill that all children need to develop if they are to genuinely achieve their potential. Participating in such an event as this, promotes this skill and in raising funds for the chosen Trust Charity, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance they have also demonstrated a commitment to helping others, another key life skill.”

Newly appointed Trust Sport, Health and Wellbeing Officer, Craig Moss said, “Sport contributes immensely to a child’s development and we are very pleased to be able to offer this wonderful opportunity to our children. GO Run for Fun gives the children a sample of how much fun running and physical activity can be and today it was wonderful to see how we, as a Trust, can run collectively in support of such an important local charity.”

Last week, GO Run For Fun celebrated as the 120,000th participant in the campaign crossed the finish line in Marseille, France.

The GO Run For Fun campaign is the idea of Jim Ratcliffe, owner of INEOS, one of the UK’s largest manufacturing companies, which announced a £1.5m donation spread over three years to encourage children to run for fun via the GO Run For Fun charitable foundation.

He explained: “I’m passionate about getting as many children running early in their lives. The idea is simple – to get children out of the house having fun. It is not rocket science.  Running is the basis of so many great sports. If our children can catch the running bug early, they’re more likely to stick to it, and this can only lead to them having more active and healthier lifestyles in the future.”

GO Run For Fun will continue to tour the UK throughout 2016 with other events planned for Newcastle, Leicester and Nottingham to name just a few.  For more information and to enter your child for INEOS GO Run For Fun events happening near you, or to register your local club or school’s interest in joining our campaign, please visit: www.gorunforfun.com.
